Abstract

The present invention relates to a cylinder lock characterized in that a locking mechanism is provided for a lock body and a rotatable key mortise. The locking mechanism includes pins having recesses, each of the pins being adapted to be disposed in a pin aperture in the key insert for reciprocating and rotational movement. An elongated spring member simultaneously engages the pin and biases the pin toward a keyhole in the key insert. The locking bar moves between a first position and a second position in which at least a portion of the locking bar is received in the recess in the pin. The locking bar is prevented from moving to the second position unless the pin is in a position where the recess is aligned with the locking bar. When the key is inserted in the keyway, the pin is moved or rotated axially so that the recess in the pin aligns with the lock bar, allowing the key to rotate the key mortise.
