Problems solved by technology

Existing support columns have been used to maintain safety barriers on multi-storey construction sites, however, some support columns suffer from specific deficiencies and limitations
For example, currently available support columns may be inconvenient to install, expensive to manufacture, prone to unlocking or moving, whether intentionally or accidentally, or may not be easy to move and transport to a different floor for reinstallation
Currently available safety barriers or safety fences also typically require adjacent fence panels to be wired together or in some cases connected to each other through the use of fragile, cumbersome or inefficient clamping or fastening mechanisms

Embodiment Construction

[0085] The present invention can encompass many different forms. The following specification and drawings describe and disclose certain specific forms.

[0086] The accompanying drawings illustrate embodiments, wherein the support columns are generally noted with reference number 1 . The support column 1 is mainly used for releasable fixing between the ceiling structure 2 and the ground structure 3 . However, those skilled in the art with a thorough understanding of the illustrated embodiment will appreciate that the ceiling structure 2 and floor structure 3 may be any other various rigid or relatively rigid structures, and it need not be a ceiling and a floor. That is, it should be understood that the support column 1 may be mounted horizontally or at an angle between two walls or other rigid or semi-rigid structures or surfaces.

[0087] The strut 1 generally consists of first and second elongated elements 4 and 5, respectively. One of the elongated elements 4 and 5 teles...

Abstract

A support column comprising first and second elongate members, a ceiling engaging member at an upper end of said first elongate member and a ground engaging member at a lower end of said second elongate member. A spring biases the ceiling engaging element away from the upper end of the first elongate element. The lock keeps the spring in compression. When in its unlocked position, the lock releases the spring and causes it to apply a biasing force to the ceiling engaging element, forcing the ceiling engaging element away from the upper end of the first elongate element. When the lock is in its locked position, the latch is secured to the first elongate element enabling telescopic movement between the elongate elements. When the lock is in its unlocked position, the latch engages the second elongate member and resists relative telescopic movement between the elongate members.

Description

technical field [0001] The field generally relates to support posts, combined fence panels and support posts, and components for use in connection with security fences or security barriers and the like. Background technique [0002] The construction of modern multi-storey buildings often requires the erection of temporary barriers around the perimeter of each floor until the facade or cladding can be installed. This barrier helps keep construction workers safe and keeps pedestrians on the ground safe by preventing construction materials and debris from being blown or dropped from the building during construction. Ideally, such a barrier should be able to withstand a predetermined load and should be easy to install and easy to remove. In multi-story high-rise buildings, security barriers usually move floor by floor as the exterior walls are constructed. Typically, this barrier is propped up between the concrete or wood floor system and the ceiling system directly above. ...
