Embodiment Construction

[0029] As shown in the figures, the described embodiments are embodied in an apparatus and method for providing independently controllable lights (lighting subsystems). At least some embodiments of independently controllable lights each include a controller, an actuator, and a sensor. These configurations offer advantages over conventional centrally controlled lighting control systems that include distributed sensors.

[0030] figure 1 A lighting control subsystem 100 is shown according to an embodiment. The exemplary lighting control subsystem 100 includes an intelligent sensor system 102 that interfaces with a high voltage manager 104 that interfaces with a light source 110 . High voltage manager 104 includes a controller (manager CPU) 120 coupled to light source 110 and smart sensor CPU 135 of smart sensor system 102 . As shown, smart sensor CPU 135 is coupled to communication interface 130, which couples the controller to external devices. Smart sensor system 102 addit...

Abstract

An apparatus, method and system for controlling a light source are disclosed. One embodiment includes a lighting control subsystem. The lighting control subsystem includes a light source, a controller coupled to the light source, and a sensor coupled to the controller. The sensor generates a sensory input. The lighting control subsystem also includes a communication interface that couples the controller to external devices. The controller is operative to control light output of the light source based at least in part on the sensed input, and to communicate at least one of status or sensed information to an external device.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This patent application is a continuation-in-part (CIP) of US Patent Application Serial No. 12 / 639,303, filed December 16, 2009, which is incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The embodiments relate generally to lighting. More particularly, the described embodiments relate to distributed lighting control. Background technique [0004] Lighting control systems automate lighting operations within a building or dwelling based on, for example, preset time schedules and / or occupancy and / or daylight sensing. Lighting systems typically employ occupancy sensors and / or daylight sensors to determine which lighting fixtures to activate, deactivate, or adjust their light levels and when to do so. Occupancy sensors typically sense the presence of one or more persons within a defined area and generate a signal indicative of that presence. [0005] Daylight sensors typically sense the amount of sunlight present within a defined ar...
