[0102] 1. Air filter including acid removal stage and solvent removal stage

[0103] 1.1 Introduction

[0104]The present invention provides a new and improved air filter that effectively removes both solvents and acids from the air with high efficiency. For this purpose, see now figure 1 with Figure 1A , which shows a novel air filter 5 formed in accordance with the present invention. The air filter 5 generally comprises two stages, an acid removal stage 10 followed by a solvent removal stage 15 .

[0105] Acid removal stage 10 typically includes a breathable skeleton 20 (for example, see Figure 4 ), on which is placed an acid neutralizing substance 25 (for example, see Figure 4 ). In a preferred form of the invention, and see now figure 1 , the acid removal stage 10 comprises fibers (eg glass fibers) to which sodium bicarbonate is attached. In another preferred form of the invention, and see now Figure 1A , the acid removal stage 10 comprises an open cell ...

Abstract

Apparatus comprising: a fumehood; and an air treatment device for purging unwanted substances from the exhaust air of the fumehood, the air treatment device comprising: a non-thermal plasma reactor stage for producing air byproducts comprising O·, Ν·, ΟΗ· and 03 and introducing those air byproducts into the exhaust air of the fumehood so as to treat the exhaust air of the fumehood; and a catalyst stage downstream of the non-thermal plasma reactor stage for further treating the air downstream of the non-themal plasma reactor stage.
