Provided are an outdoor unit of an air conditioner that detects snow accumulated on the outdoor unit of an air conditioner and a control method thereof. When a detection apparatus is installed in the outdoor unit and snow accumulates in a snow accumulation detection area included in the detection apparatus, it is detected whether snow accumulation occurs by using an optical sensor.
