Embodiment Construction

[0020] Exemplary embodiments of the invention relate to a transmitter for a magnetic resonance (MR) system, such as a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) system. The transmitter includes a coil for applying an NMR pulse sequence to the material. The coil includes a first coil portion and a second coil portion. The first coil portion and the second coil portion pass current with opposite polarities. In various embodiments, the transmitter further comprises transmitter circuitry for generating a NMR pulse sequence and providing the NMR pulse sequence to said coil. The transmitter circuit includes a first switch that selectively energizes the first coil portion and a second switch that selectively energizes the second coil portion. Operation of the first switch and the second switch generates the NMR pulse sequence. In this way, various embodiments of coils and transmitter circuits enable the transmission of NMR pulse trains over a wide frequency range, while also providing simpl...

Abstract

A transmitter for a magnetic resonance (MR) system, such as a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) system, is described herein. The transmitter includes a coil for applying an NMR pulse sequence to the material. The coil includes a first coil portion and a second coil portion. The first coil portion and the second coil portion pass current with opposite polarities. The transmitter may also include transmitter circuitry for generating a sequence of NMR pulses and providing the sequence of NMR pulses to said coil. The transmitter circuit includes a first switch that selectively energizes the first coil portion and a second switch that selectively energizes the second coil portion. Operation of the first switch and the second switch generates the NMR pulse sequence.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application, which is a Patent Cooperation Treaty patent application, claims priority to US Nonprovisional Patent Application Serial No. 13 / 963,826 filed on August 9, 2013 with the same title of invention. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to magnetic resonance (MR) systems, and more particularly to MR transmitters. Background technique [0004] Magnetic resonance (MR) systems can be used to determine the properties of substances. An example of an MR system is a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) system. NMR systems perform NRM measurements by applying a static magnetic field to the substance. The static magnetic field produces an initial magnetization of atomic nuclei within the substance. The NMR system also includes an NMR transmitter having a coil that applies an oscillating magnetic field to the substance at a specific frequency. An oscillating magnetic field consists of a sequence of p...
