Abstract

Methods, systems and circuits for crest factor reduction of inter-band multi-standard carrier aggregation signals are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method includes calculating an amplitude of each of a plurality of carrier signals of an inter-band carrier aggregation signal. Based on the sum of the calculated amplitudes of the plurality of carrier signals, an estimate of the combined envelope of the carrier signals is generated. The estimate of the combined envelope of the carrier signals is compared to a clipping threshold to determine whether to clip each of the plurality of carrier signals.

Description

technical field [0001] This written description is directed to radio transmitters, and in particular, to crest factor reduction of inter-band carrier aggregation signals in radio transmitters of communication systems. Background technique [0002] Depending on the particular set of technical requirements, the lack of spectrum bands capable of supporting wide transmission bandwidths leads to intra-band or inter-band aggregation of multiple carriers. Such carrier aggregation signals have characteristics such as high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), also commonly referred to as crest factor (CF), and wide bandwidth. Amplification of these carrier aggregation signals by a single power amplifier (PA) poses several challenges. PAs are required to maintain good power efficiency over multiple frequency bands. This has stimulated recent research attempts to develop high efficiency, multiband and wideband devices such as Doherty PAs and envelope tracking systems. Additionally, d...
