Embodiment Construction

[0045] In the following, embodiments will be described in which a connection between an application of a modem subsystem of a wireless communication device and a remote server may be established using wireless communication access associated with the application processor of the wireless communication device.

[0046] In some embodiments, SOCKS may be used to establish this connection, and for purposes of illustration, the following example embodiments will refer to SOCKS. SOCKS is an Internet protocol defined in RFC 1928. "SOCKS Protocol Version 5" (available eg from http: / / www.ietf.org / rfc / rfc1928.txt). The SOCKS protocol is usually used for figure 2 Firewall traversal as shown in .

[0047] figure 2 An example structure and message flow of SOCKS is schematically shown. exist figure 2 In the SOCKS application shown in , client 210 (including SOCKS client 211 ) and SOCKS proxy server 260 are connected through intranet 220 . Intranet 220 is protected from Internet 240...

Abstract

An arrangement of wireless communication devices is disclosed. This arrangement is suitable for establishing an application connection between an application at the application layer of the device and a remote server. The device includes: modem subsystem (including application layer, remote socket client and remote socket API between application layer and remote socket client), application processor (including remote socket server and IP stack, wherein the application processor is associated with the wireless communication access unit, and the IP stack is adapted to use the access unit to interface with the communication network); and a remote socket protocol communication channel between the remote socket client and the remote between socket servers. The application is suitable for: sending an application connection establishment request to the remote socket client via the remote socket API. The remote socket client, the remote socket server, and the remote socket protocol communication channel are collectively adapted to use the remote socket protocol communication channel and the wireless communication access unit via the remote socket protocol and establishing a remote socket connection between the remote socket client and the remote server via the IP stack; and establishing an application connection based on the remote socket connection. The remote socket client is further adapted to: (in response to establishing an application connection) send an application connection establishment response to said application via said remote socket API.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the field of establishing a connection between a wireless communication device and a remote server. Background technique [0002] A typical wireless communication device today, such as a mobile phone, includes an application processor and a modem subsystem. [0003] An application processor may typically be a system-on-chip (SoC) adapted to support applications running in the environment provided by the mobile operating system. Example tasks that an application processor can support include memory management, graphics processing, and multimedia decoding. [0004] The modem subsystem typically operates independently of the application processor and can be implemented on a separate chip. The modem subsystem typically supports cellular communication access and all related processing (eg, radio frequency processing, baseband processing, etc.) for the wireless communication device. [0005] Wireless communication access t...
