Abstract

The application relates to a display apparatus and a method of controlling the same. The controlling method of the display apparatus, which includes pixels each including red, green, blue, and white sub-pixels, includes receiving image data in a unit of frame, analyzing the image data to extract pixel data with respect to a first pixel among the pixels and block data with respect to a first block of a backlight unit, which corresponds to the first pixel, normalizing the pixel data and the block data, comparing the normalized pixel data and the normalized block data, and generating white compensation data corresponding to the white sub-pixel on the basis of the compared result.
