Embodiment Construction

[0063] Figure 1(a) shows a cut-away isometric view of a capsule 100 for use in an aerosol generating device. The capsule comprises a shell 102 containing an aerosol-forming substrate (not shown) which is sealed by a cap (not shown) which is sealed to a lip portion 104 .

[0064] The shell 102 of the capsule 100 includes a thin-walled outer side wall 106 and a thin-walled base 108 . The base 108 includes a recess 110 centrally disposed therein. The recess is frustoconical in shape and is configured to receive the heater when the capsule is inserted into the aerosol generating device.

[0065] The shell of the capsule is formed in at least two stages using deep drawing. Stage 1 consists of deep drawing the shell and recess using suitable dies and punches. Those of ordinary skill in the art will appreciate that the shell and recess may alternatively be formed in two stages. The lip of the shell is then formed in stage 2 of the process. The fabrication process is described in...

Abstract

The invention discloses an aerosol-generating device, and a capsule for use in an aerosol-generating device. The capsule for an aerosol-generating device, comprises: a shell comprising a base and at least one side wall extending from the base, the shell containing an aerosol-forming substrate; and a lid sealed on the at least one side wall for forming a sealed capsule, wherein, the base comprises a recess extending into said shell along the longitudinal axis for receiving a heater of an aerosol-generating device. The invention further relates to an aerosol-generating device comprising: a power supply; at least one heater; a cavity for receiving a capsule containing an aerosol-forming substrate according to any of the preceding claims; and a mouthpiece comprising a piercing element for piercing the lid of a capsule; wherein, the at least one heater is configured to be insertable into the recess of a capsule. In addition, an aerosol-generating system is provided which comprises an aerosol- generating device and a capsule.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to capsules for aerosol generating devices, and aerosol generating devices and systems. In particular, the invention relates to electrically operated aerosol generating devices, such as electric heating devices. Background technique [0002] Aerosol generating systems comprising a capsule and an aerosol generating device are known. One particular system is disclosed in WO2009 / 079641 and comprises a capsule comprising a shell containing a viscous vaporizable material and an aerosol former, such as propylene glycol. The shell is sealed by a cover which, in use, is piercable by the aerosol generating means when the capsule is inserted therein to allow air flow through the capsule. The apparatus includes a heater configured to heat the outer surface of the housing to up to about 200°C, and in one example, the outer surface of the housing to 170°C. Aerosol generating devices are elongated and have a diameter similar to that ...
