Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for reducing power consumption of cell switching of a mobile terminal in a WCDMA network. The method comprises the steps of switching among cells of the same frequency and switching among cells of different frequencies. According to the step of switching among the cells of the same frequency, signals fall into three types: a strong signal, a medium signal and a weak signal according to signal strength; rules for switching the mobile terminal among the cells are set according to the three types of signals; and the mobile terminal switches among the cells according to the rules for switching the mobile terminal among the cells. The step of switching among cells of different frequencies comprises the steps of setting a times threshold of switching requests, and in the mobile terminal, when the request times of cell switching reach the times threshold of switching requests after last time of cell switching, the mobile terminal communicates with a base station and selects a proper cell to switch to. Through adoption of the method, while the communication quality of the mobile terminal is ensured, the power consumption of cell switching of the mobile terminal is greatly reduced.
