Abstract

The invention provides a system for realizing software-defined storage based on a virtual machine, which comprises two storage systems, and is characterized in that the two storage systems form clusters mutually acting as a primary cluster and a standby cluster through a local area network; each storage system comprises an embedded system, an x86 virtual machine and an x86 host; and the embedded system is installed in the x86 virtual machine, and x86 virtual machine provides a storage service by using a hard disk of the x86 host at which the x86 virtual machine is located, and the embedded system manages the storage. According to the invention, a storage solution is provided through integrating general software and hardware technologies. Meanwhile, the system possesses main characteristics of a commercial storage solution, thereby finally enabling the system to undertake storage services in a cloud environment. The system provided by the invention can build an efficient software-defined storage environment by relying on open-source free software and a general x86 hardware platform, and can effectively improve the utilization ratio of computing resources of the x86 host.
