The invention discloses a network switching method and system of a narrow band-internet of things (NB-IoT) terminal. The method comprises the following steps that the NB-IoT terminal detects that an NB-IoT is disconnected, and a general packet radio service (GPRS) network searching registration procedure is started to access a GPRS network; the NB-IoT terminal judges whether NB-IoT starting conditions are met or not; and if the NB-IoT starting conditions are met, the NB-IoT terminal starts an NB-IoT searching registration procedure to switch into the NB-IoT. Therefore, access of the GPRS network is supported by additionally arranging a GPRS module on the NB-IoT terminal, and switching from the NB-IoT to the GPRS network is achieved; switching from the GPRS network to the NB-IoT is achieved by starting the NB-IoT in a timing manner or starting the NB-IoT according to an NB-IoT starting instruction, so that seamless switching between the NB-IoT and the GPRS network is achieved without needing the support of a mobile operator network side; and almost global area network coverage of the NB-IoT terminal can be achieved.
