The method comprises when operation of the air conditioner is detected, monitoring operation conditions of respective fans of the air conditioner in real time, obtaining operation parameters of the respective fans of the air conditioner, electromotor frequency values corresponding to the respective fans of the air conditioner and air volumes of respective air ducts, monitoring an indoor-outdoor air pressure difference in a working space of the air conditioner in real time, comparing a size relation between the indoor-outdoor air pressure difference and a preset air pressure, judging a size relation between the indoor-outdoor air pressure difference and the preset air pressure, and adjusting electromotor frequencies of the fans of the air conditioner in combination with the operation parameters of the respective fans of the air conditioner so as to control the air volume of the air conditioner. The invention further discloses a corresponding device based on the control method for the air volume of the air conditioner. The linkage frequency converting control between the air output of an air supply fan and a fresh air fan is realized while dynamic balance of the air volume is ensured, reduction of the service life of the fan caused by abnormal air pressure is prevented, and therefore, energy waste of the air conditioner is further reduced.
