The invention discloses a land surface area calculation method based on a large-area grid digital elevation model. According to the method of the invention, an original grid digital elevation model is segmented to a plurality of grid data; then the land surface area of each grid data is calculated; and finally the land surface area of the original grid digital elevation model is obtained through adding the surface areas of all the grid data. Because a large data blocking strategy is utilized, the land surface area of the large-area grid digital elevation model can be efficiently calculated; a triangular network is constructed in a pixel grade scale; and furthermore edge pixels are accurately processed. Compared with an existing calculation method, the land surface area calculation method has advantages of higher calculation precision, effective surface area algorithm precision improvement, and effective settlement for a problem of insufficient computer memory in calculating the surface area of a big-data-volume digital elevation model.
