Embodiment Construction

[0053] figure 1 A system 1 is shown comprising a device 2 for securing a vertebra (not shown) to a rod 3 comprising a pedicle screw 4 and a fastener 5 for securing the screw to the rod.

[0054] The device 2 comprises a flat soft band 6, for example made of braided polyester, with a thickness of 1-3 mm and a width of 6 mm, for example, and a loop for enclosing, for example, one of the lateral or lateral sides of the vertebrae. Spinous process branches (not shown) are fixed to the vertebrae.

[0055] The loop is formed by bringing the end portions 6' and 6" of the flexible strip close together.

[0056] The device 2 comprises a ring 7 fixedly connected to the fastener 5, and a locking member 8 for adjustably locking the flexible strap relative to the fastener 5 by locking the two end portions 6, 6', as will be more precisely as follows describe.

[0057] still refer to Figure 1A , the fastener 5 includes a substantially cylindrical cup-shaped body 9, the main bod...

Abstract

The invention relates to a device (2), and to a system (1) comprising such a device, for fixing a spinal vertebra to a rod (3), comprising a pedicle screw and an anchor lug for fixing the screw to therod. The device comprises a flexible strip for connection to the vertebra, a ring secured to the lug, and means secured to said ring, for adjustably locking the flexible strip in relation to the anchor lug.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a device for securing a vertebra to a rod, the device comprising a pedicle screw and a fastener for securing the screw to the rod. [0002] The invention also relates to a system equipped with rods and at least one such device. [0003] The invention is also directed to a method for securing a rod to a vertebra, in which method a pedicle screw is screwed into the vertebra and the rod is slid through a fastener used to secure the screw to the rod , and thread the compression screw onto the rod through the upper portion of the fastener. [0004] The invention finds particular, but non-limiting, application in the field of spinal correction of abnormally curved patients. Background technique [0005] In order to correct the whole, it is known to approximate the lateral edges of the vertebrae on either side of the spine by either using screws inserted into the vertebrae themselves or connecting the rods of the vertebrae w...
