example 1

[0064] Example 1 is a transmitter or apparatus suitable for a modulation scheme in a wireless communication device, comprising: a phase calculation circuit configured to receive a complex baseband signal comprising an in-phase signal and a quadrature signal forming an I-Q data pair, and determine a first rotation angle and a second rotation angle based on the I-Q data pair; and a modulation circuit, which is coupled to the phase calculation circuit and configured to determine a lower negative level based on the first rotation angle and the second rotation angle , a zero level, and a three-level modulation waveform of a higher positive level; and generating a three-level modulation waveform based on the determination.

example 2

[0065] Example 2 is a transmitter including the subject matter of Example 1, wherein the modulation circuit includes a single three-level digital-to-time converter (DTC) configured to generate a three-level modulation waveform.

example 3

[0066] Example 3 is a transmitter including the subject matter of Examples 1-2, including or omitting elements, wherein the modulation circuit further includes a local oscillator coupled to the single three-level DTC and configured to generate an unmodulated square wave.

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to transmitter (TX) dead-zone modulation. The transmitter includes a phase calculation circuit configured to receive a complex baseband signal including an in-phase signal and a quadrature signal forming an I-Q data pair, and to determine a first rotation angle and a second rotation angle based on the I-Q data pair. Two rotation angles. The transmitter also includes a modulation circuit coupled to the phase calculation circuit and configured to: determine a phase with a lower negative level, a zero level, and a higher positive level based on the first rotation angle and the second rotation angle. a three-level modulation waveform; and generating a three-level modulation waveform based on the determination.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to modulation schemes in wireless transmitters, and in particular, to apparatus and methods for implementing modulation schemes in wireless transmitters. Background technique [0002] Research and development of new architectures for communication transmitters for subscriber units is active as new applications and upcoming standards require increased data rates and reduced power consumption. In modern wireless digital communication standards (cellular, connectivity, etc.), the baseband signal to be transmitted is of a complex nature. In these standards, each sample of the signal to be transmitted corresponds to the coordinates of a point in a two-dimensional plane. Therefore, the alternative transmitter architectures used in practice correspond to alternative ways of representing point coordinates, i.e. in Cartesian coordinates, or in polar coordinates, or as a combination of Cartesian and polar coordinates, or as both ...
