Abstract

The invention discloses a keep-alive detection method and a keep-alive detection device, applied to a layer 2 tunneling protocol (L2TP) network server (LNS). The method comprises the steps of sendinga control message which indicates an agent to execute keep-alive detection to an L2TP access concentrator (LAC), wherein the LAC is the LAC accessed by a point-to-point protocol (PPP) client corresponding to a PPP session; and receiving and recording a first response message returned by the LAC when the LAC agrees the agent to execute the keep-alive detection. According to the technical scheme ofthe method and the device provided by the embodiment of the invention, the quantity of keep-alive message interactions between the LNS and the user is effectively reduced, LNS reporting queue and CPUprocessing pressure is relieved, and thus the LNS operates more efficiently and stably.
