Abstract

The present application relates to a method and device for feature extraction in object shape detection. With the method of the present application, firstly, sub-regions are generated for each feature point, and then representative scores of each sub-region are calculated to form a sub-region representative score table. The subregion representative score table is further transformed into a two-class representation subregion mapping table. Thereafter, a reduced set of sub-region features is extracted from the selected sub-region based on the sub-region mapping table. Finally, the final locations of all feature points are computed by predicting the shape using the reduced set of subregion features via subsequent stages. This application can improve the speed of face feature point detection and maintain the accuracy.

Description

technical field [0001] This application relates generally to object shape alignment, and more specifically to a feature extraction method for creating "supervised reduced features" for detecting facial landmarks. Background technique [0002] Regression-based face alignment typically relies on learning a regression model between feature and shape increments. Computation of shape increments requires extraction of the entire sub-region feature set. Article titled "Speeded-Up Robust Features (SURF)" ("Speed Up Robust Features") (Herbert Bay, Andreas Ess, Tinne Tuytelaars and Luc VanGool, Speeded-Up Robust Features (SURF), Computer Vision and Image Understanding, Volume 110, pages 346–359, 2008) disclose a feature extraction method that extracts an entire sub-region feature set over a point of interest. In this method, as figure 1 As shown in , a specific number of feature points to be detected in the face image are extracted. Then, an area centered on each feature point i...
