Embodiment Construction

[0036] Exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure relate to an aortic annulus support device and system for treating and preventing further annulus dilation during surgical repair of the aortic valve while preserving the three-dimensionality of the ventricular-aortic junction during the cardiac cycle. (3D) Motion.

[0037] Exemplary aortic annulus support devices and support systems for selectively remodeling a dilated aortic annulus. The support system can accommodate the non-planar geometry of the aortic annulus during systole and dilation of the cardiac cycle.

[0038] According to an exemplary embodiment, an aortic annulus support device and support system includes a composite ring and an elastic band. Compound rings are generally planar and elliptical, but can also be deformed above and below the plane. Use of such composite rings may allow surgeons to perform longer-lasting valve-sparing surgeries by reducing and preventing further annulus dilatation.

Abstract

A two-part aortic annulus support system designed to support the aortic annulus during aortic valve repair surgery to prevent further dilation of the annulus. The first part comprises the composite annulus which can be positioned from inside the aortic valve to the left ventricular outflow tract at the level of the annulus. The composite ring includes a semi-rigid segment and an elastically deformable segment. The semi-rigid section is relatively short compared to the deformable section. The deformable segment is capable of extending to the commissure of the aortic valve. The second part is an elastic band that can be positioned to the outside of the aortic root. The elastic band can be secured to the compound ring through the aortic annulus with sutures. The present disclosure also relates to the use of an aortic annulus support system and a method of inserting and securing an aortic annulus support system during a surgical procedure.

Description

technical field [0001] This disclosure relates to the field of implantable medical devices. In particular, the present disclosure relates to a medical device support system implantable during surgical reconstruction or surgical repair of an incompetent aortic valve. Background technique [0002] The mammalian heart is an organ of four muscular chambers that work together to pump blood throughout the body. Each of the four chambers has an associated downstream one-way valve consisting of movable coaptation leaves, which may also be referred to herein as cusps. These cusps fit tightly together, preventing blood from flowing back into their respective chambers, a phenomenon known as regurgitation. Two of these heart valves, the aortic and pulmonary valves, are also commonly referred to as semilunar valves. The aortic valve is a tricuspid valve characterized by having three cusps, called the right anterior coronary cusp, the left coronary cusp, and the noncoronary cusp. In 1...
