Abstract

A reciprocating pump includes a housing, a rod, a bellows, and a bearing. The housing surrounds a bellows chamber and a displacement chamber. A first portion of the rod extends into the bellows chamber. The bellows has a first end connected to the housing and a second end connected to the rod. The bellows surrounds a second portion of the rod. The bellows includes a plurality of convolutions. Thebearing is disposed within the bellows between the bellows and the rod.

Description

[0001] Cross reference to related applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Application No. 62 / 269,524, filed December 18, 2015, entitled "Internal Bellows Bearing," the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. Background technique [0003] The present disclosure relates to reciprocating pumps, and more particularly to reciprocating pumps having bellows seals. [0004] In reciprocating pumps, bellows are used to create a non-slip seal that prevents the working fluid from being exposed to other fluids, such as outside air. The longer the pump stroke of a reciprocating pump, the longer the bellows required to provide a non-slip seal. As the bellows get longer to accommodate longer pump strokes, the bellows become more flexible when compressed and eventually unstable. This causes the bellows to squirm and flex until the bellows contacts the pump rod. Contact between the bellows and the pump rod during normal movement of the ...
