Abstract

The present invention relates to methods and systems for detecting degradation of oxygen sensors due to sealant outgassing. Methods and systems are provided for detecting degradation of an exhaust gas oxygen sensor due to outgassing of a sealant. In one example, a method includes indicating exhaust gas oxygen sensor degradation due to sealant outgassing in response to a change in fueling demand without a change in driver demanded torque after a threshold exhaust temperature has been reached. In response to the indication, measurement corrections may be learned and applied to measurements of the exhaust gas oxygen sensor in order to accurately determine the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas.
