Abstract

A method (400) for detecting an error in a bridge sensor (100) which is adapted for measuring a physical parameter. The method comprises biasing (410) a first contact pair of the bridge sensor (100) at least two times in a first direction and at least one time in a second direction opposite to the first direction; while biasing the first contact pair, measuring (420) an output signal on a different contact pair of the bridge sensor, thus obtaining at least three output measurements which are representative for the physical parameter and which are separated by time intervals; combining (430) the output measurements to obtain an output value which is indicative for an error in the bridge sensor, wherein the output measurements which are combined are only those output measurements which are measured when biasing the first contact pair.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to the field of bridge sensors. More specifically, it relates to methods and systems for detecting hardware failures in bridge sensors. Background technique [0002] Bridge sensors typically operate by biasing one contact pair and measuring the output signal on the other contact pair. The output signal is typically a differential signal that varies due to changes in the resistance value in the bridge sensor. Due to changes in physical parameters, the resistance value in bridge sensors can vary. A physical parameter may eg be an external pressure or an external magnetic field. [0003] A bridge sensor can be, for example, a magnetic sensor which can be used in many applications. Many of these applications are safety-critical applications, such as for example in the automotive industry. Therefore, the correct functioning of these sensors is very important, and preferably this can be tested when the magnetic sensor is started up...
