System and method for enabling the originator of an electronic mail message to preset an expiration time, date, and/or event, and to control processing or handling by a recipient

An electronic mail system and method enables the originator of a message sent by electronic mail to select a date, time, or event at which the message and all incarnations of the message to self-destruct, regardless of the number and types of computers or software systems that may have interacted with the message. The system and message also permits the originator to include processing and handling limitations. The necessary control over the message is achieved by encrypting the message and enabling viewing only through a viewer applet arranged to facilitate destruction of the message upon the occurrence of the selected expiration time, date, or event, and to implemented the handling and processing limitations. A central server can be used to exercise additional control over the message by serving as a proxy destination, and by streaming the encrypted message to the viewer applet. The viewer applet can be transmitted to new recipients with the message so that the system and method can direct mail to any electronic mail user.

Systems and methods for detecting text

The subject invention relates to facilitating text detection. The invention employs a boosted classifier and a transductive classifier to provide accurate and efficient text detection systems and / or methods. The boosted classifier is trained through features generated from a set of training connected components and labels. The boosted classifier utilizes the features to classify the training connected components, wherein inferred labels are conveyed to a transductive classifier, which generates additional properties. The initial set of features and the properties are utilized to train the transductive classifier. Upon training, the system and / or methods can be utilized to detect text in data under text detection, wherein unlabeled data is received, and connected components are extracted therefrom and utilized to generate corresponding feature vectors, which are employed to classify the connected components using the initial boosted classifier. Inferred labels are utilized to generate properties, which are utilized along with the initial feature vectors to classify each connected component using the transductive classifier.

System and method for rapidly identifying the existence and location of an item in a file

A system and method for rapidly identifying the existence and location of an item in a file using an improved hash table architecture. A hash table is constructed having a plurality of hash buckets, each identified by a primary hash key. Each hash entry in each hash bucket contains a pointer to a record in a master file, as well as a secondary hash key independent of the primary hash key. A search for a particular item is performed by identifying the appropriate hash bucket by obtaining a primary hash key for the search term. Individual hash entries within the hash bucket are checked for matches by comparing the stored secondary keys with the secondary key for the search term. Potentially matching records can be identified or ruled out without necessitating repeated reads of the master file. The improved hash table system and method is employed in a contextual text searching application for determining the intersection of a text search with a hierarchical categorization scheme.

Method and apparatus for implementing a MAC address pool for assignment to a virtual interface aggregate

A technique implements a MAC address pool containing a plurality of unique MAC addresses adapted for assignment to a virtual interface or aggregate of a server in a computer network. The MAC address pool is created from original MAC addresses assigned to physical interfaces of a network interface card (NIC) that is used in the server. The physical interfaces and their underlying physical links are organized as the aggregate. Upon system initialization, a virtual interface process of the server collects the originally assigned MAC addresses of the NIC, modifies them and organizes them as a pool. Each originally assigned MAC address is modified by asserting its locally administered bit. Each modified MAC address is a distinct MAC address that does not conflict with other MAC addresses within, e.g., a local area network of the computer network.

Efficient fluorimetric analyzer for single-walled carbon nanotubes

The present invention is directed toward methods and devices for analyzing populations of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) on the basis of their fluorescence properties and the comparison of said properties to fluorescence profiles of pre-determined SWNT compositions. Generally, such analyzing yields information about the composition of the SWNTs within said population. Such information includes, for example, the relative abundances of semiconducting SWNTs, the diameter distribution of such SWNTs, and the relative abundances of one or more particular SWNT species—as identified by one or more specific nanotube indices (n,m). The methods and devices of the present invention provide for the analysis of SWNT compositions in a rapid and efficient manner.
