Problems solved by technology

However, commonly used pneumatic actuators are not suitable for the high pressure of the storage tank; therefore, a regulator must also be included in the system
The combination of a pneumatic actuator and a pressure regulator adds complexity and expense to currently known systems

Embodiment Construction

[0045] The present disclosure describes systems that include remotely operated switches or valves that actuate to isolate tanks from tank groups in the event of a loss of pressure in the system, such as when a fire triggers a cleanup process. Other applications of the disclosed system include use during filling or unloading of tanks or groups of tanks.

[0046] figure 2 A schematic diagram of a pressurized tank system 10 is shown in which tank 12 has a larger volume than tank 14 . Valves 16, 18, and 20 are controlled by an operator, such as manually or by a computer. Pressure actuated valve 22 opens and closes automatically in response to the pressure in line 24 . For example, pressure-actuated valve 22 is sometimes referred to as "remotely operated" because it is not opened and closed directly by an operator or computer-controlled actuator. Since the operator does not need to open and close the pressure-actuated valve 22 directly, the described concept reduces manual manip...

Abstract

A pressurized tank system (10) includes a first tank (12), a second tank (14), a manifold (28), a first conduit (30) connecting the first tank (12) to the manifold (28) ), the second pipe (32) connecting the second tank (14) to the manifold (28), the first pressure-actuated valve (22) operably connected to the second pipe (32), the connecting manifold ( 28) and the third conduit (24) of the first pressure actuated valve (22) and the fourth conduit (38) connecting the first pressure actuated valve (22) and the second tank (14). A first pressure-actuated valve (22) is configured to be operated by fluid pressure in a third conduit (24). A method includes operatively operably operably connecting the first pressure-actuated valve (22); and using fluid in the third conduit (24) to automatically open the first pressure-actuated valve (22) when the fluid pressure level exceeds a threshold pressure level.

Description

Background technique [0001] In some parts of the world that lack gas pipelines, fuels such as natural gas can be delivered in high pressure storage tanks on trucks such as that shown in Figure 1 . In order to maximize the capacity of the truck trailer, several large capacity tanks are combined with several smaller capacity tanks as an assembly. All these connected tanks are pressurized and depressurized via common fill hoses using a manifold system. [0002] The connections between the tanks are designed so that in the event of a fire the pressure in the tank will clear out of the tank and into the atmosphere. During a known purge process, the larger tank may be backfilled into the smaller tank rather than being purged into the atmosphere. To avoid this outcome, in the prior art, pneumatic actuators are used in some systems such that when the pressure in the system drops, the actuator closes the valve to isolate the larger tank from the smaller tank. However, commonly used ...
