Abstract

The present application discloses a method and device for processing the aging time of a MAC address table, and belongs to the technical field of communication. The method is applied to a layer-2 network device included in a layer-2 network, and includes: determining the aging time of a ARP table of a target layer-3 network device; changing the stored aging time information of the MAC address table to first aging time information based on the aging time of the ARP table, wherein the first aging time is greater than or equal to the aging time of the ARP table of the target layer-3 network device; transmitting the first aging time information to another layer-2 network device, other than layer-2 network device, in the layer-2 network in order that the another layer-2 network device changes the stored aging time information of the MAC address table to the first aging time information. The method and device avoids a situation that the aging time of the MAC address table of the layer-2 network device is less than the aging time of the ARP table of the layer-3 network device, so as to avoid network congestion and service loss.
