Problems solved by technology

Some of the main reasons that hinder the addition of ADL-based (and/or iADL-based) exercises to a patient's home rehabilitation regimen can include: (1) The clinician's inability to receive information related to the performance of ADL- and/or iADL-specific home exercises; Sufficient amount of information, and (2) patient does not receive sufficient feedback related to training for this ADL/iADL

[0086] Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to a rehabilitation system and method for providing holistic rehabilitation therapy to a patient, wherein the rehabilitation therapy is characterized by home training that addresses practical activities of daily living (ADL). ADL includes basic activities of daily living (BADL) and independent activities of daily living (iADL, also known as instrumental activities of daily living). BADLs are basic daily activities performed by a person such as eating, bathing, dressing, sitting, standing, walking whereas iADLs are more complex activities usually performed by a person during a normal day such as managing money, driving, housework, preparing Meals, shopping and proper medication intake. As described herein, BADL and / or iADL intensive training (hereinafter referred to as "home training") can be categorized as task rehabilitation, arm / leg motor rehabilitation, cognitive rehabilitation, or medication adherence. Abstract

A rehabilitation system includes a portable patient workstation configured to facilitate in-home rehabilitation therapy. In some embodiments, the workstation includes a computing device and one or more rehabilitation devices. The computing device is configured to generate computer-based tasks associated with one or more in-home exercises. The rehabilitation devices, communicatively coupled to thecomputing device, includes a sensor that captures movement data for use in evaluating a patient's motor skills when instructed to perform one or more of the tasks.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to systems and methods for facilitating rehabilitation, and more particularly to rehabilitation systems and methods for rehabilitation with home training based on activities of daily living. Background technique [0002] Studies have shown that patients with neurological damage (eg, due to stroke, multiple sclerosis, trauma, or degenerative brain diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) benefit from clinicians (eg, physical therapists) who specialize in rehabilitation combined with home training )Treatment. Unfortunately, most people have limited access to therapy and similarly limited home training. Reasons for this include high cost and limited access to rehabilitation treatments and low motivation to train at home. Regardless of the cause, offering a limited amount of rehab and doing home training often results in patients not recovering at the highest level. [0003] Traditionally, home functions a...
