Embodiment Construction

[0023] Some traditional BCIs record brain (eg, cortex) signals and map the recorded brain signals to corresponding control signals to control prosthetics and make the prosthetic device perform movements. While such brain-computer interface technologies are useful for enabling patients to self-control prosthetic devices using the patient's own brain signals, implementing them is very invasive because they require direct access to cortical neurons in the brain to record for providing control Signal biosignature. The inventors have recognized and appreciated that biophysical signals corresponding to the user's motion can be measured by using multiple sensors worn by the user (e.g., EMG sensors), and mapping the motion information recorded by the sensors to control devices for controlling signals to improve traditional control interfaces.

Abstract

Methods and apparatus for adapting a control mapping associating sensor signals with control signals for controlling an operation of a device. The method comprises obtaining first state information for an operation of the device, providing the first state information as input to an intention model associated with an operation of the device and obtaining corresponding first intention model output, providing a plurality of neuromuscular signals recorded from a user and/or signals derived from the neuromuscular signals as inputs to a first control mapping and obtaining corresponding first controlmapping output, and updating the first control mapping using the inputs provided to the first control mapping and the first intention model output to obtain a second control mapping.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application is based on 35 U.S.C. §119(e) requirements filed on July 25, 2016 entitled "ADAPTIVE SYSTEM FOR DERIVING CONTROL SIGNALS FROM MEASUREMENTS OF MUSCLE OR MOTOR UNIT ACTIVITY), U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 366,427, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. Background technique [0003] Technology exists to control computer systems through wireless myoelectric user interfaces. In one such method, the user wears a strap sized to fit around the user's forearm or wrist. The strap includes myoelectric sensors arranged to detect hand and / or finger gestures by sensing muscle activity of the user. Typically, a wearable strap includes processing capabilities that receive sensed signals and convert them into electronic control signals that are then transmitted (wirelessly or otherwise) to the device being controlled, e.g., a computer, some other portable Electronic devices, applicati...
