Problems solved by technology

While this standard of care approach may be effective for some patients, there are significant disadvantages in terms of: patient convenience, fee cost, therapist's accessibility to the patient outside of appointment times, interaction between multiple sessions, Assessment of the patient's ongoing progress or improvement, and therapist's supervision
Current methods for determining a patient's likelihood of dropping out rely on the therapist's experience, with patients reliably self-reporting their own level of engagement, both of which are at least in part subjective, and cannot by definition identify those who do not participate at all after initial exposure. patients in treatment

[0076] computer based system

[0077] refer tofigure 1 , a computer-based system 1 that can be used to provide psychotherapy includes a plurality of devices 2 connectable to a server 3 through a network system 4 1 …2 N .

[0078] System 1 preferably enables the therapist and patient to exchange multiple text-based messages using device 2 during a therapy session.

[0079] Each device 2 may be a mobile device, such as a laptop, tablet, smartphone, wearable, etc. Each device 2 may be a (nominal) non-mobile device, such as a desktop computer or the like. Each device 2 may be of any suitable type, such as a ubiquitous computing device or the like.

[0080] refer to Figure 2a , (typically) device 2 includes one or more processors 2a, memory 2b, storage 2c, one or more network interfaces 2d, and one or more user interface (UI) devices 2e. The one or more processors 2a communicate with other elements of the device 2 through one or more buses 2f, directly or through one or more...

Abstract

A psychotherapy triage method for use by a computer-based system, the method comprising: obtaining (S2), via a user interface of the system, text data relating to a patient at an initial stage of a therapy process; using (S3) at least a first part of a deep learning model to obtain a representation of at least the text data; using (S4) at least a second part of the deep learning model, and an input thereto formed using the representation, to obtain an output predicting a characteristic of a condition of the patient and / or of the therapy process; and causing (S6) the system to take one or moreactions relating to the therapy process, wherein the one or more actions are selected based on the output; wherein the deep learning model is trained using a training set comprising, for each of a plurality of other patients, text data relating to the other patient at an initial stage of a therapy process and a result of a determination of the characteristic.

Description

technical field [0001] The present application relates in particular to a method of providing (psychological) therapy by a computerized system. Background technique [0002] A computer-based system that can be used to provide therapy is described in WO 2016 / 071660 A1 (herein incorporated by reference). Among other things, the system enables patients and therapists to exchange information during treatment, especially text-based information. This application is related to certain technical improvements of such systems. [0003] Common mental health disorders include depression and anxiety, which are characterized by intense emotional distress that affects social and occupational functioning. Around one in four adults worldwide suffer from a mental health problem in any given year. In the United States, mental illness is associated with an estimated $201 billion per year in direct health system costs that are growing at 6% per year, faster than the 4% annual growth rate of g...
