The material accumulation detection system comprises a first belt conveyor and a second belt conveyor which are in parallel lap joint or vertical lap joint, wherein a strip-shaped laser probe and an industrial camera are mounted at the upper end of the second belt conveyor; and the position of the strip-shaped laser probe and the position of a laser stripe are adjusted, so that the laser stripe is vertical to the belt running direction of the second belt conveyor. The invention further discloses a specific detection method.
