Problems solved by technology

[0003] However, vibration information can vary widely over time, and the question arises whether differences in data indicate a machine problem or simply Differences in Data Collection Conditions
[0011] All of this makes data review relatively difficult because the engineer doesn't know why a trend line suddenly stops or spikes on the chart he is examining
This is a time-consuming and often error-prone process

[0024] figure 1 , a graph 100 is shown in which time increases along the X-axis and the magnitude of the reading (eg, of vibration) increases along the Y-axis. Trendlines 102 are depicted in graph 100 , where the trendlines 102 represent three different sets of conditions 110 , 112 , and 114 (over time). However, the underlying readout plotted under all the different conditions is semantically the same since it has the same readout type, eg 1X rotation speed.

[0025] In graphs 400 , 500 and 600 relating to the prior art, readings for different conditions 110 , 112 and 114 are plotted with different trendlines 402 , 502 and 602 instead of a single trendline 102 . Accordingly, each respective trendline 402, 502, and 602 (associated with a different one of the conditions 110, 112, and 114, respectively) has gaps representing those times when a given condition is not associated with that given trendline .

[0026] From the data in this portion of graph 100, various limits are ...

Abstract

A computerized apparatus for presenting vibration data that is read under different conditions as a single trend line on a chart. A sensor measures vibration and produces vibration data. A memory stores the vibration data, an indicator of the condition under which the vibration data was produced, and a type associated with the vibration data. A processor reads the vibration data, the condition, and the type from the memory, and selectively plots the vibration data on the trend line when the type of the vibration data matches a given value, even though the condition might be different from datapoint to data point on the trend line. The processor selectively creates a flag indicating a condition change, and an interface presents a plot of the trend line, and the flag when a condition changeoccurs between data points.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the field of data plotting. More specifically, the present invention relates to graphing the same type of single trendline vibration data acquired under different conditions. Background technique [0002] In machine health science, vibration data is an important parameter that needs to be collected, recorded and analyzed. Vibrations produced by a given machine, such as a rotating machine, can indicate to a skilled engineer whether the machine is operating correctly, and when not, can also provide important information to determine the exact nature of a given problem. [0003] However, vibration information can vary widely over time, and the question arises whether differences in the data indicate machine problems or simply differences in data collection conditions. [0004] For example, consider the case where a vibration sensor is mounted on a pump. If the pump is pumping water, the vibration data will tend to be at...
