According to the invention, the elastic constant of the liquid crystal composition is increased by adding the compound represented by the general formula I, the dielectric anisotropy of the liquid crystal composition is improved by adding the compound represented by the general formula II, and the rotary viscosity is reduced by adding the compound represented by the general formula III. According to the present invention, the compound represented by the general formula I has characteristics of large elastic constant and low rotary viscosity, such that the elastic constant of the liquid crystal composition can be improved while the rotary viscosity is maintained unchanged so as to meet the high contrast ratio and the rapid response required by the liquid crystal display device.
