Embodiment Construction

[0017] Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to an ignition interlock device or an alcohol interlock device, and to an ignition interlock system or an alcohol interlock system for a vehicle. Alcolock is a registered trademark but has become a generic name for ignition interlock devices and systems and is considered a generic term. Therefore, the alcohol interlock system used in the present disclosure is similar to the ignition interlock system herein, and the alcohol interlock device similar to the ignition interlock device is used in the present disclosure herein. An alcohol interlock device is a device used to test whether a user is under the influence of alcohol and / or drugs, and if under the influence, an alcohol interlock device is configured to prohibit use of a vehicle equipped with an ignition interlock system and which system the device is communicating with. The device is part of an alcohol interlock or ignition interlock system. The alcohol interlock device,...

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to an ignition interlock device and system for accurately detecting a drunk driver by running an interactive visual test presented for the driver to visualize on a screen of the alcolock device, which further comprises at least an eye gaze tracking module for recording eye movements and measuring gaze data, and a motor skill computing module for computing motion parameters from the sensor data measured during the interactive visual test. The alcolock device may further comprise a drunk detection module fo rmeasuring drunkenness (s) of the driver by mapping gaze parameters and motion parameters to measure the mismatch between motor skills and cognitive processing performance, and a decision module for allowing the driver to drive the vehicle, or not, based on the measured drunkenness (s).

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to ignition interlock devices and systems, such as alcohol interlock devices and systems. Background technique [0002] According to Finnish statistics, drink driving is involved in 25% of fatal traffic accidents. In 2011 alone, in Finland, 74 people were killed and 735 people were injured in traffic accidents involving drunk driving (documents [1], [4]). The cost of traffic fatalities is estimated at 1.9 million euros. The cost of permanent injuries is 1 million euros, and the average cost of temporary injuries is 241,000 euros. [0003] In addition, the statistics also show that the profile of drunk drivers has not changed over a long period of time. About a third of drunk drivers are recidivists, and the rate has remained at the same level for 30 years. The risk of arrest has not increased in 30 years. A drunk driver can still drive about 220 times before being arrested (Reference [4]). These findings support the...
