Embodiment Construction

[0034] figure 2 is a perspective view of a convertible flying / driving vehicle 100 according to the present invention. The vehicle 100 includes an elongated body 110 containing an interior compartment for accommodating passengers, the size of which is comparable to that of a car. The vehicle 100 comprises an undercarriage 120 comprising one front wheel 121 and two rear wheels 122 , 123 . The rear end of the vehicle 100 includes a propeller 130, which is used to provide propulsion in the flight mode, and can be folded and accommodated inside the vehicle body in the driving mode.

[0035] Vehicle 100 houses an engine (not shown for simplicity). In drive mode, engine power is sent to the rear wheels and used to propel the vehicle like a normal car on the road. In flight mode, engine power is transmitted to propeller 130 to provide propulsion in the air.

[0036] The vehicle 100 is provided with a main shaft 140 , and the lower end 141 of the main shaft 140 is hinged to the to...

Abstract

A foldable rotor blade (152, 153) comprises a hinge element (173; 240) defining two hinge axes arranged in parallel, and two blade segments (171, 172) each coupled to the hinge element (173; 240) for hinging with respect to a respective one of said hinge axes. The rotor blade has an extended condition in which the blade segments are substantially aligned with each other; the rotor blade has a folded condition in which each blade segment is hinged with respect to the hinge element so that the blade segments are substantially parallel to each other. The blade has a cord (14) and said hinge axes are substantially parallel to the chord. The blade segments have upper surfaces which in the folded condition are facing each other, and which in the extended condition are flush with each other and the intermediate hinge element.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to rotor blades of lift rotors. In the context of the present invention, a "lift rotor" is a rotor that provides lift to an aircraft, such as a helicopter or rotorcraft. The invention relates in particular to the field of convertible vehicles having a flight state and a road traffic state. Background technique [0002] Typically, the length of the rotor blade is much greater than the width or length of the associated vehicle. This length translates to the amount of floor space the vehicle occupies when stationary. In some cases, it is desirable to reduce space, such as when parked in a shelter or transported by truck or plane. [0003] For rotors with two blades, the overall carrier width can be reduced by aligning the rotor blades longitudinally with the carrier. If that wasn't enough, it is known that the rotor blades can be removed, but this requires lifting equipment and / or personnel to climb on top of th...
