[0037]As embodied and broadly described herein, the present invention relates to devices and methods for closing wounds. A preferred embodiment of the invention is a kneading closure capable of bilateral closure. In this way, unlike most other closure systems other than sutured, both sides of the wound are moved together simultaneously. This avoids separation of the dermal layers which would create voids that could lead to blistering. The device should be applied close to the wound edges and should remain close to the wound during closure. There should be a clearly defined stop to ensure that the closure is not over-tensioned - which in turn can also lead to blistering. The device should be able to evert the approximate skin edge during closure to aid in wound site cosmetics, hemostasis, and rapid restoration of blood flow.
