Embodiment Construction

[0045] Figures 1 to 6 Schematically showing parts of embodiments of contact mechanisms 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 51 for monitoring synthetic fiber ropes, Figures 1 to 4 and Figure 6 shown in twisted rope 6 and Figure 5 A so-called double cable 7 is shown, which consists of two twisted cables that are twisted in opposite directions and joined together in a common cable sheath 8 that prevents twisting. These synthetic fiber ropes have various uses, for example as carrier ropes for elevator installations. However, such synthetic fiber cables can also be used for other purposes, for example in conveyor systems, aerial ropeways, etc., as will be apparent to those skilled in the art.

[0046] The twisted cables 6 and the double cables 7 are formed from electrically insulating synthetic fibers and electrically conductive herald fibers 9 . Synthetic fibers are, for example, polyamide fibers, and prophetic fibers 9 are, for example, carbon fibers. A plurality of synthetic fibers and at le...

Abstract

A rope is made of synthetic non-conducting strands with interspersed electrically conducting indicator fibers to warn of breaks or faults. All the indicator fibers are connected together at one end and selectively connected in series and parallel at the other. Any breaks are detected electrically by comparison with a reference value for electrical resistance. Independent claims are also included for: (a) a contact element fitted at one end of the rope, e.g. a disk with a cutting edge held by a self-tapping screw or a number of alternative contact devices (b) a plastic rope fitted with safety wires connected in this manner; (c) twinned ropes of opposite twist fitted with safety wires and a joint contact device.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method and device for contacting a synthetic fiber cord whose safety can be monitored, and a synthetic fiber cord whose safety can be monitored. Background technique [0002] Synthetic fiber ropes are used in many different ways as both stationary and running ropes. No matter what kind of cables they are used, they must bear a lot of load. In the case of a running cable, the tensile stress is additionally superimposed by the bending stress, so that its service life will be shortened due to the number of load ranges in which it operates. In order to detect the operating critical state of synthetic fiber rope wear, ie the so-called extent to which the synthetic fiber rope is ready to be replaced before it fails, its safety status must be monitored. [0003] Such monitoring of the safety of synthetic fiber cords is disclosed in the applicant's patent specification EP-0,731,209 B1. The load-carrying cables used therein...
