Embodiment Construction

[0036] The exemplary circular wave driver aspects disclosed herein may be of simpler construction than known harmonic and cycloidal drivers. The exemplary circular wave drive aspects disclosed herein can also be compact in size, offer a wide range of reduction ratios, are not back-drivable, and operate with little or no backlash. The exemplary circular wave drive aspects disclosed herein lack the rollers commonly found in cycloidal drives.

[0037] In general, the exemplary circular wave driver aspects disclosed herein may comprise a housing with a circular cavity therein. The housing may include a cover that closes a cavity in the housing to form a closed circular chamber. The housing may be formed from more than one element, optionally assembled together. The teeth may be provided along the circular inner wall of the chamber (input ring gear). An annular wheel (input cycloidal disc) may be located within the chamber. The ring wheel may be integral with the housing or rem...

Abstract

A circular wave driver system is provided. In one aspect, the circular wave driver includes a flexible input ring gear having an inner surface, the inner surface having internal input ring gear teeth; an input cycloid disc having an outer surface, the outer surface having outer input cycloid disc gear teeth oriented on the outer surface, where the outer input cycloid disc gear teeth at least partially engage the inner input ring gear teeth; a flexible main drive gear having an outer surface, the outer surface having external main drive gear teeth; an eccentric motion generator including an eccentric portion and a non-eccentric portion, wherein center lines of the eccentric portion and the non-eccentric portion are offset from each other; and an output cycloid disc having an inner surface, the inner surface having inner output cycloid disc teeth, where the inner output cycloid disc teeth at least partially engage the outer main drive gear teeth.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 860,887, filed June 13, 2019, and U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 981,101, filed February 25, 2020, in their entirety Incorporated in this application by reference. Background technique [0003] Various devices are known for transmitting power and reducing the output speed of the motor. Two such devices are harmonic drives and cycloidal drives. [0004] The better known of these devices is the harmonic drive, which was introduced in the 1950s and is now in widespread use. However, said harmonic drive requires the use of flexible gears, which are deliberately repeatedly deformed during the operation of the harmonic drive. Deformation of the flex gear fatigues the material of which it is constructed, which fatigue limits the speed reduction and torque transfer that can be achieved with harmonic drives. [0005] Typical versions of...
