Embodiment Construction

[0045] The same reference numerals will be used for corresponding features in the different embodiments.

[0046] refer to figure 2 and Image 6 , an embodiment of the present invention provides a method 200 for controlling chromatic dispersion compensation in an optical transmission network. The method includes the following steps:

[0047] determining 202 whether the residual dispersion RD of the first path 3 within the optical transport network is within a defined RD range; and

[0048] If the RD of the first path is outside the defined RD range, then:

Abstract

A method (200) of controlling chroma dispersion compensation in an optical transport network. The method comprises determining (202) whether a residual dispersion, RD, of a first path (3) within the network is within a defined RD range, and if the RD of the first path is outside the defined RD range, the method comprises identifying (204) a first tunable dispersion compensation module, TDCM, traversed by the first path (3) configured to apply a corresponding dispersion compensation value. The method further comprises determining (206) another dispersion compensation value to be applied by the first TDCM such that the RD of the first path is within the defined RD range; if (208) the first TDCM is traversed by at least one other path (1, 2), checking (210) whether a respective RD of the at least one other path is within a respective defined RD range for the further dispersion compensation value; and generating (212) a control signal comprising an instruction configured to set the first TDCM to apply the further dispersion compensation value.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method for controlling chromatic dispersion compensation in an optical transmission network. The invention also relates to an apparatus for controlling chromatic dispersion compensation in an optical transmission network, and an apparatus for adding a path from a first node to a second node in an optical transmission network. Background technique [0002] Recent standardization activities on 5G transport networks have led to renewed interest in DWDM systems based on intensity modulation and direct detection as a cost-effective alternative to coherent optical interfaces by equalizing at the receiver to compensate for chromatic dispersion. [0003] The wavelength channels of a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) signal experience different distortions and losses along the path. In addition to this, the individual performance of channel transmitters and receivers is also different, so each channel has different initial wavef...
