An optical information recording device for accurately recording information signals by suitable determining the recording conditions such as the recording power and the positions of the edges of recording pulses by test recording before actually recording the information signals. The test signals for optimizing the positions of the edges of recording pulses are supplied from an edge test signal generating circuit . The recording start points of the test signals are randomly shifted in the sectors of an optical information recording medium by a recording start point shifting circuit so as to suppress the bias of the edge intervals due to mark distortion caused by overwrite, and the test signals are test-recorded in the sectors. An average value of the edge intervals of the test signals reproduced from the sectors are found by a system control circuit , and the differences between the average value and the edge interval of each original test signal is found by the circuit , thus determining the corrections of the edge positions.
