Embodiment 1

[0038] The combined larvicide formulation of the present invention is a mixture of two commercially available strains: VECTOBAC CG, a commercial B.t.i. granular formulation with a labeled potency of 200 ITU / mg, and VECTOLEX CG, a commercial B.s. granular formulation, Labeling efficacy 50B.s.ITU / mg. Typically, a spray-dried commercial concentrate of each strain was first incorporated into a known amount of vegetable oil binder. The amount of vegetable oil binder in the formulation will depend on the amount of B.t.i. or B.s. Spray Industrial Concentrate in the formulation. This typical range can vary between 1% and 15% wt / wt depending on the amount of B.t.i. or B.s. spray dried industrial concentrate, and the type, size and absorption properties of the particulate carrier used in the formulation. In this example, size classification 10 / 14 mesh corn cob meal was used. However, other size ranges such as 5 / 8 mesh, 10 / 20 mesh, 10 / 40 mesh are also suitable. The slurry mixture is s...

Embodiment 2

[0040] Preparation of B.t.i. and B.s. granular formulations for enhanced and broad-spectrum activity. Pre-formulated granular products of B.t.i. and B.s. (VECTOBAC CG and VECTOLEX CG) were used for the development of blending formulations. The resulting mixed granular product is designed to contain B.t.i. 100 ITU / mg and B.s. 25 B.s. ITU / mg. The carrier used was corn cob meal 10 / 14 mesh.

[0041] To prepare the formulation, 5 kg each of VECTOLEX CG and VECTOBAC CG were charged into a blender and blended. The product mixture is then recovered.

[0042] Representative samples are used for bioanalysis. Table 1 shows the amounts of raw materials used to form the product mixture.

Embodiment 3

[0050] Lavicide mixture products can also be formulated by mixing the desired levels of both B.t.i. and B.s. industrial powders in the same binder liquid and then injecting or spraying onto a granular carrier such as corn cob meal or any other suitable carrier .

[0051] To prepare the formulation, the two spray-dried commercial concentrates can be slurried in a vegetable oil binder liquid, sprayed onto a granular carrier in a suitable mixer and mixed until a homogeneous product is obtained. (100 ITU / mg) and B.s. (25 B.s. ITU / mg) Theoretical components of the mixed formulations are provided in Table 3 below.

Abstract

A method for controlling Dipteran larvae or a method for inhibiting the development of larvicidal resistance, controlling resistant populations and reducing resistance levels in Diptera by introducing a larvicidally-effective amount of a combination of a strain of Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis and a strain of Bacillus sphaericus into an environment containing Dipteran larvae; and a composition of the combination are disclosed. Preferably both strains are non-genetically modified.

Description

field of invention [0001] The present invention relates to a method for controlling insect larvae of the order Diptera or a method for inhibiting larvicide resistance in insects of the order Diptera by introducing a larvicidally effective amount of Bacillus thuringiensis israelina A mixture of a species strain and a Bacillus sphaericus strain into an environment containing insect larvae of the order Diptera; and a composition of the mixture. Preferably, both strains are not genetically modified. Background of the invention [0002] Mosquitoes and black mosquitoes are representatives of Diptera insects, which are pests that endanger the survival of humans and animals. Mosquitoes are major carriers of many human and animal diseases, including malaria, yellow fever, viral encephalitis, dengue fever, and filariasis. [0003] Various chemical insecticides have been developed targeting the control of Diptera insects. For example, water-soluble ethanol in water-mixed form for wa...
