Problems solved by technology

Second, the natural bone breaks into pieces, which can be dangerous for dogs to swallow
Third, natural bone is too hard for mature healthy dogs to chew safely, and even more difficult for puppies with new teeth, dogs with weak or injured jaws, and older dogs
Fourth, natural bones with fatty oils can stain and damage carpets and other items in the home, and the smell is too strong for the home
However, pieces of rawhide are also very hard and, therefore, difficult for puppies, older dogs, and dogs with weak or injured jaws to chew

Embodiment Construction

[0043] Now see attached picture, Figure 1-6 A chew toy for a carnivorous animal such as a domestic dog of the present invention is shown, and a method of manufacturing the same. exist figure 1 , the chew toy is generally indicated by the reference numeral 100. and combine Figure 4 and 5 A first method of manufacturing the chew toy of the present invention will be described. combine Figure 6 An alternative method of making the chew toy of the present invention will be described. Figure 7-8 and 10 represent alternative chew toy embodiments, Figure 9 Schematic representation of an alternative method of making a chew toy.

[0044] In each embodiment, the article of the present invention is referred to as a "chew toy". The most common article of the invention is a toy, although it could also be, for example, a therapeutic device, a drug delivery device, or an oral hygiene device, so the term "toy" is not limited to articles that may be simply called "chews".

Abstract

An animal chew toy for carnivorous animals and a method for making the animal chew toy. The animal chew toy is primarily for dogs, and is safe, entertaining, and satisfies their inherent and instinctive need to chew. The chew toy is particularly safe for older dogs, dogs with weak jaws, and puppies with relatively new teeth. The chew toy is formed into a desired shape from a rawhide bit mixture of rawhide bits or pieces and a bonding agent and / or adherent. A plurality of flavor chunks, for example jerky pieces, are interspersed in the rawhide bit mixture to provide an enticing flavor and aroma that encourages an animal to continue to chew to reveal more flavor chunks. The rawhide bit mixture can further include health affecting additives. One method of forming the chew toy includes extrusion molding which can be coupled with baking or heat-treating to destroy unhealthy pathogens and solidify the chew toy. An elongated jerky member may also be encased within the chew toy.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to animal chews for carnivorous animals, and methods of making animal chews. In particular, the present invention relates to rawhide animal chew toys, primarily for dogs, which are safe, entertaining and satisfy their instinctive need to chew. Background technique [0002] Carnivores, primarily dogs, have an essentially instinctive desire to chew. Chew toys have been used for many years to direct animals' instinctive desire to chew in a healthy direction and to provide them with jaw training. A "chew toy" intended for a dog to chew for a longer period of time should be distinguished from a "feed" intended for a dog to chew for a shorter period of time and then digest. Chew toys typically fit into two distinct categories: (i) composed of synthetic materials, and (ii) composed at least in part of animal skin, animal body parts, or the like. However, as described below, existing chew toys have various disadvantages which m...
