Embodiment Construction

[0026] It will be appreciated that one embodiment of the single use retractable syringe 10 described herein includes, in part, those elements first described in International Application WO 01 / 80930, Australian Patent 731159, and US Patent 6,083,199, all of which are incorporated herein as refer to.

[0027] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2 , the syringe 10 has a plunger 20 , a barrel 40 , a retractable needle 50 and a spring seat 60 . A spring seat 60 is disposed within the flared end 41 of the syringe 40 and includes a first body member 70 and a second body member 80 that cooperate to accommodate a spring 90 and maintain it in the initial compressed state shown in FIG. 1 . The syringe 10 also includes a seal 11 disposed on the plunger 20 that prevents fluid from leaking between the plunger 20 and the inner wall 42 of the syringe barrel 40 .

[0028] A retractable needle 50 is mounted on the needle end 44 of the syringe 40 and includes a cannula 51 and barbed arms 52A, 52B mounte...

Abstract

A spring seat (60) for a syringe (10) having a barrel (40), a plunger (20), a spring (90) and a retractable needle (50) which can engage a post The plunger combination is used for retraction of the needle and plunger of the spring driven combination. The spring seat has a first body member (70) and a second body member (80) which cooperate to releasably maintain the spring in a compressed state until engaging the retractable needle after the plunger is lowered to deliver the syringe liquid in it. The lowering of the plunger triggers the first and second housings to be rotationally disengaged to allow the spring to decompress which causes the retractable needle to retract into the barrel. Rotational disengagement of the first and second body members also facilitates rotation of the plunger to an eventual inoperable position.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a spring seat for a syringe. In particular, the present invention relates to a spring seat for a single use, retractable syringe that facilitates preventing re-use of the syringe and / or needle. Background technique [0002] The problem of sharing syringes is well known. The problem of sharing inadequately sterilized syringes between consecutive patients primarily contributes to the spread of HIV and subsequent severe relapses in recovered hepatitis patients, as well as the high costs of society assisting those patients and providing medical maintenance. [0003] The rare but very high-risk situations associated with unclean needles and syringes are caused by possible inadvertent needle barbar injury incidents. This is particularly problematic for law enforcement and healthcare professionals who, in the course of their professional activities, regularly come into contact with illicit drug users. Also dangerous by-products are...
