Embodiment Construction

[0068] Referring now to the accompanying drawings. figure 1 A preferred embodiment of the identity confirmation system of the present invention is shown. Most generally speaking, the identity verification system of the present invention includes a stylus 2, a plurality of fingerprint sensors are housed in the pen-holding portion 4 of the stylus 2; a digital writing pad 5; a small keyboard 6 for inputting data; a digital display unit 8 and Processing unit 7.

[0069] The stylus 2 includes a plurality of sensors for capturing biometric characteristics of the signer. Processor 7 processes the captured information and, once identified, determines whether to allow access to an account, or whether it is allowed entry or has other privileges. In a preferred embodiment, the system includes means to allow the signer to enter a primary identifier, wherein said identifier is a series of letters, numbers, and dialogue words converted to text (speech recognition), etc. The primary iden...

Abstract

A stylus with a biometric sensor that captures various biometric information when the stylus is in use. The stylus is the centerpiece of the system, enabling the transition from a card-based transaction system to a card-not-present transaction system. The stylus detects fingerprints and other characteristics of the index finger and thumb, and the customer signs with the stylus. In currently used signature verification systems, a pen system is used, but no fingerprints are measured. The stylus can be converted when it is used to verify a signature at a point-of-sale terminal, in a closed environment where admission cards are issued to limit the number of people, or in a restricted area. Initially, the stylus will replace the current pen system for signature verification. Once it is used for signature verification, the credit card is no longer necessary. Applicants can also use the stylus to participate in government programs (such as grants, voter registration and driver's licenses, etc.).
