Embodiment Construction

[0015] figure 1 is an illustration of a directly translated embodiment of a detector assembly according to an aspect of the invention. figure 1 Showing the exemplary embodiment, a detector assembly 10 includes a radiation conversion layer 12 and a pixel array 14 . Each layer is described in further detail below.

[0016] The ray conversion layer 12 is used to receive rays 5 such as X-rays passing through an object (not shown in the figure) and convert the rays into a large number of signals. Such as figure 1 In the exemplary embodiment shown, the radiation conversion layer 12 contains at least one metallic layer (also identified with the reference numeral 12 ). According to a particular embodiment, said metal layer 12 has a thickness in the range of about 50 micrometers to about 2 millimeters. Herein, "about" should be understood to mean an accuracy of plus or minus ten percent (10%) of the recited length.

[0017] Such as figure 1 In the direct conversion embodiment sho...

Abstract

A detector assembly including a radiation conversion layer directly coupled to a pixel array is provided. The radiation conversion layer is adapted to receive radiation passing through an object. The pixel array is adapted for receiving one of the radiation emitted directly by the 'radiation conversion' layer or the corresponding optical signals from an optional intermediate light production layer (16) and further configured for generating a corresponding image of the object.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to inspection systems, in particular to radiographic inspection techniques and components thereof. Background technique [0002] Typically, for some radiographic systems, the x-rays will penetrate the object and be converted by the light generating layer into light corresponding to the corresponding density. The light generated by the light generating layer is provided to an electronic device. The electronic device is used to convert the light signal generated by the light generating layer into a corresponding electric signal. The electrical signals are then used to construct an image of the object. [0003] In radiography, scattering of X-rays can degrade (or blur) the final image, which is undesirable. In order to control the scatter present in medical systems, a lead grid is placed on the detector to geometrically block the scattered secondary X-rays. However, when non-destructive inspections are to be performed, hi...
