[0091] Description of preferred manufacturing scheme
[0092] "Taller than wide" tablets are manufactured containing three segments, each having an active top or upper segment and an active lower or bottom segment separated by a substantially inactive middle segment. A Stokes 27-station three-layer rotary tablet press was used. All formulations are directly compressible powder blends. Blending of the amlodipine formulation and the benazepril formulation was performed in a Patterson-Kelly "V" blender. The middle segment contained 194 mg of Nu-Tab(R) and did not require mixing. Tablets were compressed to a hardness of 35 kgf using a 0.131 inch by 0.3222 inch oval concave tablet punch. The bottom segment is loaded into the die first. The tablet weighs 310 mg. The tablets so produced were 8 mm high; the inactive middle segment was 5-6 mm high and 4 mm wide.
