AI Technical Summary

Benefits of technology

The present invention is about creating FE meshes that represent different shapes, such as cylinders, spheres, and cubes. The system uses techniques to reduce the number of elements and save computer time while maintaining accuracy. It can handle both simple and complex shapes and can even create irregular shapes like geological caverns or manufactured parts. The method ensures that the original measured geometrical data is accurately transferred to the computational mesh and constructs elements with the required characteristics for efficient and stable calculations. Overall, the invention provides techniques to create more accurate meshes representing both artificially and naturally formed geometries.

Problems solved by technology

It is difficult to accurately represent these irregular geometries or spaces by a meshed mass in these computational models, and so the representation of these irregular spaces has been limited to approximations in the models.
However, these prior models lack the precision to accurately model the caverns for some types of analysis.
Most of the caverns were solution mined by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) resulting in irregular cavern geometry, spacing, and depth.

Abstract

Systems, methods and computer program products for creating 3D representations of bodies are disclosed. The systems, methods and computer program products include the construction of FE meshes representing complex geometries. The complex geometries may be artificially or naturally formed or designed geometries. The techniques reduce the number of elements as much as possible to save on computer run time while maintaining computational accuracy.
