Embodiment Construction

[0050] Figure 3 illustrates an illustrative or exemplary embodiment of the present invention in block diagram form. Invented in this embodiment is an ordered audio help tag 30 having a body 32, for example made of rigid plastic, flexible plastic or other suitable means. In some embodiments, the body may consist only of a protective film covering the functional elements, thereby separating them from these elements. In some embodiments, it may be possible to fabricate all or nearly all components of the device as a flexible circuit, possibly even as a monolithic device.

[0051] In the illustrated embodiment, the tag 30 includes a memory 33 for holding a sequence of audio messages (msg 0-N). The memory may be programmed at the time of manufacture, such as where the memory is formed as an integrated circuit, with audio message data represented in circuits, interconnects, or otherwise; for example, the memory may be a read-only memory (ROM). Alternatively, the memory could be em...

Abstract

A sequenced audio help tag (30) has a plurality of recorded audio messages that are played back one at a time in a predetermined order in response to user actuation of a button or trigger (38) to signal the next message to be played audio message. The tag (30) can be affixed to, for example, a consumer electronic device as a quick start help reference system for the user. In some embodiments, the message is pre-recorded, but in other embodiments, the user can record the message.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to audio playback devices, and more particularly to audio tags such as may be affixed to consumer devices and the like to provide audio assistance when setting up or using the devices. Background technique [0002] Figure 1 illustrates in block diagram form an audio or musical greeting card 10 such as is known in the prior art. For traditional greeting cards, musical greeting cards include a main body 12, which is usually made of stiff paper folded in one or more folds 14, and may carry a pre-printed greeting such as "Happy New Year!!" . A musical greeting card consists of: memory, which is encoded digital data or other representation of the music or greeting sound to be played; and a codec, which fetches that data from memory and converts it to an analog waveform, which is provided to an amplifier , the amplifier amplifies the signal and provides it to a piezoelectric transducer or other suitable speaker mecha...
