Abstract

Disclosed is a liquid crystal display wherein the difference of color reproduction range between reflective display and transmissive display is small. For example, as shown in Fig 1, a counter substrate (11) has such a structure wherein a retardation film (22) and a sheet polarizer (23) are arranged on the outer side of a glass substrate (21) and a color filter (24) is arranged on the inner side of the glass substrate (21). The color filter (24) selects color of light passing through it, and has a color reproduction range of not less than 0.079 in both a reflective region (a) and a transmissive region (b). The color filter (24) is preferably made of a same coloring material and so formed as to have a substantially same thickness. Namely, the color filter (24) is preferably so formed as to have the same structure in the reflective region (a) and the transmissive region (b) within one pixel region.
