Embodiment Construction

[0053] Now, several exemplary embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. In the drawings, as noted above, the same or similar elements are denoted by the same reference numerals even if they are described in different drawings. In the following description, specific descriptions of known functions and configurations incorporated herein have been omitted for clarity and conciseness.

[0054]In a system using an OFDM transmission scheme compatible with HRPD, BCMCS slots may not be continuously transmitted. Therefore, the channel estimation performance depends on whether the OFDM symbols are located at the edge of the slot or in the center of the slot. OFDM symbols located at the edge of the slot are inferior to OFDM symbols located at the center of the slot in terms of channel estimation performance. That is, since the same value is used for the ratio R of the power allocated to the individual pilot subcarriers...

Abstract

An apparatus and method transmits a packet data symbol in a high-rate packet data (HRPD) mobile communication system for broadcasting service. A transmission processor generates a modulated symbol by encoding, interleaving and modulating a physical layer packet to be transmitted, and arranges the modulated symbol in a data tone. A tone inserter inserts a guard tone and a pilot tone into the data tone. A tone power allocator sets a different pilot-to-data tone power ratio according to a position of a slot, in which the packet data symbol is included, and allocates power according to the pilot-to-data tone power ratio. A transmitter transmits the packet data symbol.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to apparatus and methods for providing broadcast services in a wireless packet communication system. In particular, the present invention relates to an apparatus and method for controlling power allocation to pilot tones in a broadcasting system using an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) transmission scheme. Background technique [0002] Traditionally, wireless transmission schemes for providing broadcast services such as Broadcast and Multicast Service (BCMCS) have been developed targeting reception on fixed terminals, or reception on low data rate mobile terminals. Now, active research is being performed on techniques for allowing subscribers to receive broadcast services in a high-speed mobile environment using small-sized terminals. Broadcasting technologies such as digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) and digital video broadcasting-handheld (DVB-H), which are typical BCMCS technologies, hav...
