Abstract

The invention provides a method and a device for automatically selecting network for a dual mode mobile terminal from 2G network and 3G network. The method for automatically selecting network includes: step 1, periodically searching whether a 3G network is present when the dual mode terminal is retained in a 2G network and in idle state, and measuring related information of the 3G network if a 3G network is determined to be present; and step 2, judging whether the related information measured of the 3G network satisfies a predetermined gate limit, and determining if the network mode should be switched or not based on the judging result.
